Meditations On Leadership
These are my thoughts on leadership related topics and ideas. It is meant to be a sort of journal for me and if you find it useful than I am happy to have helped.
How to Own Your Own Mind by Napoleon Hill is an excellent book and I actually enjoyed it more than his more popular book Think and Grow Rich. Two of the main themes that I got out this book were Definite Purpose and Persistence. Definite PurposeDefinite Purpose is exactly what it sounds like. It is the purpose that you have defined for yourself. It is your single minded driving purpose. The thing that gets you up and going every day. I don't think it was meant to have anything to do with the "purpose of life" but it is the well defined purpose for your actions, particularly at work. The point that I think Andrew Carnegie and Napoleon Hill are making is that you can't just work and do things at your job because it's your job. You need to have a reason for going in to work everyday and a reason that you can lean into when you are having those off days. PersistenceYou have to stick to the plan that you make. As a leader you have to lift your head up and make sure the bus is driving the right way, sometimes you have to make course corrections if needed. But you have to keep making progress in the direction of your goals. You have to be unrelenting. If you made a goal to do X thing every day you make sure that you do it every day. "Persistence is a keyword in all forms of individual achievement. Without it no one can go very far in any undertaking." Andrew Carnegie
