Meditations On Leadership
These are my thoughts on leadership related topics and ideas. It is meant to be a sort of journal for me and if you find it useful than I am happy to have helped.
"We have two ears and one tongue so that we would listen more and talk less." -Diogenes I'll be completely honest. I am not the world's greatest listener. I'm getting better but I still have a long way to go. I am continually surprised by how hard it is to truly listen to someone. Like Stephen R. Covey says "Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply." Which for the longest time was what I thought was right. I thought that was what you were supposed to do and I didn't even question it until I read How to Win Friends and Influence People and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Since reading those books and others I have really tried to listen but I still catch myself thinking about a response rather than listening. I encourage you to read How to Win Friends and Influence People and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I also encourage you to try and listen to understand rather than to reply. I know it has made a difference in my communication skills and can make a difference in yours. Leadership LessonListen to understand rather than to reply. People will be more open to your opinions and thoughts if you have first taken the time to listen to them and understand them.
