Meditations On Leadership
These are my thoughts on leadership related topics and ideas. It is meant to be a sort of journal for me and if you find it useful than I am happy to have helped.
Sometimes I have thoughts or I find quotes that I really like and they don't really make a coherent blog post. I don't want to lose those thoughts so these Random Meditation posts are designed so I don't lose them. Ancient Wisdom"Your look must be broad and ample. Looking and seeing are two different things. Look powerfully, see gently." -Miyamoto Musashi from The Complete Book of Five Rings translated by Kenji Tokitsu. I have read this book twice but I prefer this translation because Tokitsu adds a lot of context to the text. I originally had The Book of Five rings in my list but I removed it because it is hard to understand due to the vast differences in language, culture, and centuries. Happiness"In their quest for happiness people mistake excitement of the mind for real happiness." -Sayadaw U. Pandita Jerks"It is more painful to be a jerk than to be nice to one." -Jake FlowThe state of Flow is when you are doing what you love and it isn't too easy or too hard. It is when you lose yourself and it doesn't feel like work. Believe and Customers"In life we do what we believe we can do. No more than that." -Sam Beckford and Steve Chandler "The problem with customer satisfaction is that customers expect to be satisfied. Therefore, customer satisfaction does not create wealth." -Sam Beckford and Steve Chandler women, School, Prayer"When we speak of a man's wife as his better half, we generally speak much more of the truth than we realize. For it is a well known fact that no man's mind is complete without a harmonious alliance with a mind of a woman." -Andrew Carnegie "There is no school that equals the good old university of experience. And this is one school in which cribbing is not possible. One either graduates on merit or one does not graduate at all." -Andrew Carnegie "True prayer is a way of life. The truest life is literally a way of prayer." -Napoleon Hill Emerson- Walden"All things have two handles: beware of the wrong one." -Ralph Waldo Emerson "Let no good stay in your hand for too long." -Ralph Waldo Emerson "The mob is man voluntarily descending to the nature of the beast. Its fit hour of activity is night. Its actions are insane like its whole constitution. It persecutes a principle; it would whip a right; it would tar and feather justice, by inflicting fire and outrage upon the houses and persons of those who have these. It resembles the prank of boys, who run with fire-engines to put out the ruddy aurora streaming to the stars." -Ralph Waldo Emerson "The inquiry leads us to that source, at once the essence of genius, of virtue, and of life, which we call Spontaneity or Instinct. We denote this primary wisdom as Intuition, whilst all later teachings are tuitions." -Ralph Waldo Emerson “Where is the master who could have taught Shakespeare? Where is the master who could have instructed Franklin, or Washington, or Bacon, or Newton? Every man is unique. The Scipionism of Scipio was precisely the part that he could not borrow. Shakespeare will never be made by the study of Shakespeare. Do that which is assigned to you, and you cannot hope too much or dare too much” -Ralph Waldo Emerson The Sun"The Sun shines on the Earth but most of the light is lost to the abyss." -Unknown
