Meditations On Leadership
These are my thoughts on leadership related topics and ideas. It is meant to be a sort of journal for me and if you find it useful than I am happy to have helped.
A leader is the one who speaks last and acts first. -Simon Sinek ![]() There are two reasons why you should talk last if you are the most senior person in the room. The first reason you really should speak last is that you can't risk your words biasing people toward your opinion. That also means before the meeting or official discussion starts you can't speak or hint at your opinion or you risk influencing the conversation before it happens and missing out on creativity that otherwise could have benefited your team. The second reason is almost the opposite, you should let other's ideas inform and influence your decision. If you know the topic well enough you should do your own research and form your own opinion before meeting but you should leave yourself open to hear other's thoughts and ideas. If you are truly seeking for the best option or solution you will make a better decision if you have several well informed opinions that you have thoroughly listened to. Leadership lessonGood leaders can leverage multiple people's skills and knowledge and utilize that for the good of all but that is hard if you speak first and never hear other's opinions untainted by your own. Take time to listen, sort through the information and make the best decision based on the best information.
