Meditations On Leadership
These are my thoughts on leadership related topics and ideas. It is meant to be a sort of journal for me and if you find it useful than I am happy to have helped.
"Don't be a bottleneck. If a matter is not a decision for the President or you, delegate it. Force responsibility down and out. Find problem areas, add structure and delegate. The pressure is to do the reverse. Resist it." - Donald Rumsfeld What is the biggest bottleneck in your organization? If you are the leader it could be you. Your company can only grow as fast as you let it. If you are ever doing anything that you can pay someone else to do, even if you think that you can do it better, you are slowing your company down. You're slowing it down because there are a few of things that only the leader can do and a couple of those are leading and inspiring. If you aren't leading because you're working on the cash flow projections, who is? If you aren't inspiring people with vision because you're working on your marketing plan, who is? All of those things are important and you may have to spend time on them because you are still growing. But if you never hire experts in those areas you will cripple your growth in two ways; you won't have time to grow your company because you will be too busy running it and because you aren't building your company up, it will be shrinking. Leadership LessonDon't be your own worst enemy. Get out of your own way by delegating everything you possibly can. If you are the leader you should be focusing on leading as much as possible.
