Meditations On Leadership
These are my thoughts on leadership related topics and ideas. It is meant to be a sort of journal for me and if you find it useful than I am happy to have helped.
“Self-education is, I firmly believe, the only kind of education there is.” ― Isaac Asimov All real education is self-education. Now, before all the teachers in the world get mad at me and grab their pitch forks let me clarify here. I believe that school is important and that teachers do amazing work. But I also think that if the student isn't willing then no amount of teaching can happen. I'm not anti-school and I wouldn't encourage anyone to drop out of school. That's the opposite of what I would encourage. I would encourage you to take advantage of the time that you have in school to really learn as much as you can because it is the only time in your life that you are learning full-time. All that aside though, you better believe that you need to self-educate your whole life. I started really taking control of my self-education a little over two years before writing this post and I wish I would have done it sooner. If I knew the magic words to write that could reach out from the screen and grab you by the collar to shake you into believing that you need to take control of your own education right now I would write them in all caps and underline them multiple times. Not only is it very rewarding to learn but you get a natural high from learning. Especially because when you are self directing your own education you get to pick the subjects that you are interested in. Beyond that, there is a reason that successful people read a lot. It isn't because they are successful, it's the other way around. People who are continually learning are going to have more of an edge on everyone else and be more successful. Be hungry for knowledge. Be starving for knowledge. Burn through books as fast as you can. Seriously. If you think that sounds terrible you haven't experienced true education. Your brain wants to learn. You get a dopamine dump from learning new things. I don't know where the fear or the anxiety comes form surrounding education because real learning is fun and addictive. I know those feelings are real though because before I got hooked on learning and studying I was the same way. When I started learning things and applying them in my life and then seeing the results, real change in my life, it changed how I feel about education. Now I can't get enough. I wish I would have started so much sooner. Leadership LessonMake time and take time to learn. Never stop learning. You will become a better leader and a better person if you will constantly choose to learn.
“Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death.” ― Albert Einstein
